Growing up in the Bay Area, Sam Jack was exposed to numerous creative influences over the years. Painting, drawing and craftmanship have always been hobbies, but it wasn't until college when painting became more serious. Taking just one introduction to oil painting class spawned a hobby that has flamed into a passion.
After graduating from Ithaca College, Ithaca, NY   with a degree in broadcasting, Sam Jack chose to return to the Bay Area to settle down. Working as a freelance editor, grip and gaffer, Sam has spaces between gigs where he can create, not only on canvas, but in a recording studio in his home. The paintings reflect the man, bright with color, raw with emotion, and deep with texture. Subjects range from impressionistic landscapes, cartoonish charactures to abstract works. The process is unrefined, like a jazz musican's solo. First, a background color is layed down, creating the mood. Then, wherever the brush stroke takes him, he goes. Sometimes an intersting shadow falls on the canvas, sometimes there is a picture in his head he cannot get out. And like a jazz solo, where it started might not be the same place it ends. The goal in all this is to be accessable to all who experience the work.
